The history of Digital motion picture camera technology started in 1999 when Sony released the first24p digital motion picture production system. 2. The Crystal LED Display System
The Crystal LED Display System was officially launched by SONY in Q1, 2017. While in June 2016, Crystal LED display system was firstly demonstrated in the Infocomm US 2016 with stunning performance. After that, Crystal LED has been receiving a lot of attention in multiple professional areas including Industrial Design, Architectural Design, Theme Park, Research Institute, Flight Simulation, Exhibition, etc, which industries require a high-standard of realistic images of display. The core technology of micro LED upended the general awareness of small-pitch LED display.
The Crystal LED Display system is mainly composed with 2 parts: Display Unit – ZRD-2 and Display Controller – ZRCT-200. The gap between each display unit is very small – only 1.26mm, which enables display units to be 'tiled' seamlessly that visibly no seam could be recognized on the large screen. At the meantime, according to the environment demand, the display units could be spliced to create super-size displays of virtually any dimensions or aspect ratio, making all kinds of heteromorphic display possible. Operation also requires the ZRCT-200 Display Controller plus Display Control Software for Windows PC to control multiple Display units. The quantity of Display controller depends on the total resolution and display size, and each ZRCT-200 can control up to 72 ZRD-2 display units with maximum input resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.
Sony's unique Crystal LED Display System uses self-developed Ultra-fine LED cell as light source. Separate red, green and blue surface-mounted Ultrafine LEDs, whose size is as small as only 0,003m2, allow a huge 99% of the display’s surface area to be completely black, while other regular products’ black area could only reach 30-40% of the surface. Exceeding the limits of conventional LED panel technology, this enables an extraordinarily high contrast ratio of over 1,000,000:1, with enormous color range (140% of sRGB), plus virtually 180 degree viewing angle (and the color and brightness would not change in any angle both horizontally and vertically), and impressive 1000 nit brightness for immersive viewing in light or dark environments. In addition, 5 color domains could be supported: simulated BT.2020，Adobe RGB, DCI, sRGB and original color domain.
Regarding the Interface, Crystal LED could support video inputs of both HDMI and Display Port, making it easy to access to multiple kinds of servers thus to support display of multiple kinds of materials. At the meantime, the system supports Active 3D, with frame speed reaching 60P for a single eye, so as to achieve a flow of 120P frame speed for both eyes. In addition, the system supports curved splicing display, with a maximum screen curve of 5 degree (diagonal 9.24m).
At present, the micro LED display system market is in the ascendant stage, thus it is facing the situation that products are many but positioning levels are various; applications are complex but effect has not been achieved. SONY’s Crystal LED System is taking high-end application and high quality engineering as standard, and aims to making a high-end indoor large screen application model.
